SPF: Your Everyday bff
We get it—sunscreen might not be the most exciting part of your skincare routine. But if glowing, healthy skin is your goal (and let’s be honest, whose isn’t?), sunscreen is non-negotiable. It prevents premature aging, protects against skin cancer, and helps to maintain an even skin tone. Ultraviolet (UV) rays are sneaky. They can cause skin damage even when it's cloudy, cold, or you’re indoors near a sunny window. Over time, that adds up to premature aging—think fine lines, dark spots, and sagging skin—as well as an increased risk of skin cancer.
What to Consider When Choosing a Sunscreen:
Broad-spectrum: Protects against both UVA (aging) and UVB (burning) rays.
SPF 30 or higher: Blocks 97% of UVB rays
Mineral sunscreens: Great for sensitive skin, thanks to ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.
Water resistant
Avoid sunscreens that come in combination with insect repellant. It’s best to use two separate products so that you can reapply sunscreen as directed. There isn’t a need to reapply insect repellant as often and too much may cause harm.
How to Apply Sunscreen:
· Use 1oz (about the size of a shot glass)
· Apply 15 minutes before going outside. Make it the last step of your skincare routine, right before makeup. Remember to cover your ears, neck, chest, hands, and scalp
· Use lip balm that contains sunscreen
· Reapply every two hours if you’re outside, sweating, or swimming
Sunscreen Formulations:
· Creamy: dry skin
· Gel: oily skin, hairy parts of body
· Sticks: around eyes
· Sprays: ensure you spray liberally and rub in
Always check the expiration date and throw away expired products
